Obama wins!!!

YES, WE CAN!!

It didn't come as a surprise that more people voted for Obama than the other guy, but what was a surprise was that the Republicans didn't steal the election. After their dirty campaigning and constant mud-slinging, I wasn't confident that they were above it. And those nightmares of GW "winning" in Florida and being elected, although he didn't carry the popular vote, were looming in the back of my mind.

I went to my friends Jesse and Catie's apartment to watch the results pour in. I spent two similar nights at their house watching one of the Presidential Debates and the Vice-Presidential Debate.

We're all huge Democrats, as most overseas travelers are - they've been able to see what the Republican model has done to so many of the Third World Countries who use it; the rich get richer and the poor beg on the streets. I understand why the people who own businesses vote Republican - it's called tax breaks and cash in their pockets. I get it. What I don't get is the need to lie to the poor people, telling them Republicans in or running for office hold their "values." Hardly. They couldn't care less about the middle and lower classes and their struggles.

Finally, the United States, after 8 years of idiot, Republican government (although they now try to say that Bush isn't a "real" Republican - nice try - what were you saying a year ago??), has chosen by a MAJORITY a leader that we can all be proud of - a well educated person who can communicate with other countries effectively and put a positive face on the United States of America.

It's been too long.
