5 Month Appointment & Guate Update

Almost as soon as we arrived back in Guatemala from Minnesota, Sienna was due for her 5 month appointment. We went in on January 15 and Sienna weighed in at 17 pounds 6 ounces (75th percentile) and 26.8 inches (100th percentile)!

She only needed her rotavirus vaccination and it was given orally, so it was no problem. All else was
perfect - she's a very happy and healthy baby girl!

Sienna's back to sleeping like a princess - she goes down arou
nd 9pm
and sleeps until 7am, rarely waking up in the night. She takes naps around 9am, 12pm, 2pm and 5pm.

Our nanny Reina has been a dream. I can't say enough good things about her. Sienna loves her and she loves Sienna. She works because she needs the money, obviously, but she often acts as if it's not just a job. It seems she truly enjoys spending time with Sienna.

Normally Reina goes to her aunt's house on Saturdays around noon and returns on Sundays around 6pm, but this week she decided not to go. She spent Saturday morning cleaning the house while Sienna and I spent time together. She even scrubbed the refrigerator and watched Sienna while she napped and I ran to the market in zone 1 to buy veggies. I couldn't ask for more.

Sienna started eating cereal, Earth's Best Organic Whole Grain Rice Cereal, that a friend and co-worker gave me last year before they headed back to the States. She said she bought all six or seven boxes in the States to bring to Guatemala, but she'd already been feeding her son a non-organic kind of cereal and he refused to make the switch. Sienna seems to like it and after a few weeks was eating about three teaspoons at midday.

Everything's going great in Guatemala. I'll be staying for a third year and most likely a fourth before making a move, possibly to Europe, where Sienna will attend preschool and elementary. Anything can happen in the meantime, but those are our long-term plans as of today!
